Abstract

CIMC Modular Building Systems, a global leader in modular construction, completed the construction of a 120-unit container hotel in Brisbane

CIMC Modular Building Systems, a global leader in modular construction, completed the construction of a 120-unit container hotel in Brisbane, Australia, in June 2025. The project stood out for its speed and efficiency: the entire hotel was assembled on-site in just 2 months, which is 40% faster than the 3.5-month timeline typically required for a traditional mid-rise hotel of the same size. This rapid construction was made possible by factory prefabrication—over 90% of the hotel’s components, including walls, floors, and bathroom fixtures, were manufactured in CIMC’s factory in China and then shipped to Australia for final assembly. The hotel also meets Australia’s strict building standards, including the AS1170.1 standard for wind load resistance, which is crucial for withstanding the strong winds that occasionally hit the Brisbane area. The hotel, named “Container Stay Brisbane,” targets budget travelers and has already achieved a 70% occupancy rate in its first month of operation, demonstrating the commercial viability of container-based hospitality projects.
