Southeast Asia has emerged as the fastest-growing regional market for container houses, with a projected CAGR of 8.2% from 2025 to 2030—higher than the global average of 7.4%. This growth is driven by two key factors: the development of Indonesia’s new capital city, Nusantara, and the expansion of mining operations in Thailand. In Nusantara, the Indonesian government has prioritized the use of prefabricated buildings, including container houses, to speed up the construction of residential and administrative facilities for the 1.5 million people expected to relocate to the new capital by 2030. Meanwhile, in Thailand, mining companies in the northern provinces of Chiang Mai and Phitsanulok are increasingly using container houses to provide accommodation for workers in remote mining sites. To cater to the region’s logistics challenges, manufacturers have introduced foldable container house designs that reduce sea freight costs by 50%—a critical advantage given the high transportation costs in Southeast Asia. Major players in the region’s market include local manufacturers and Chinese exporters, who have adapted their products to meet local climate needs, such as adding heat-resistant roofs for tropical weather.
